Lego has launched a new range of botanical blocks including leaves, bushes and trees, which are all made from plant-based plastic sourced from sugarcane.

The new sustainable Lego pieces are made from polyethylene, a soft, durable and flexible plastic. The unique brick design is in line with the company’s mission towards reducing non-biodegradable plastic and using sustainable materials in its core products and packaging.

The toy manufacturer has also partnered with WWF to support and build demand for sustainably-sourced plastic, purchasing ethically-produced sugarcane from Brazil.

The Lego group is targeting 2030 to reach zero waste in operations to reduce plastic waste from going to landfill.
